or taken down an ad? >> i don't. and you know, keep in mind the very first ad that came from the romney campaign during this campaign cycle was an ad that took president obama out of context. you recall this was an ad that used a clip of obama back in the '08 campaign talking about john mccain and what john mccain had to say about the economy, but in the context of that romney ad, it only presented the words as if they were coming right out of the president's mouth and that wasn't the case. i've tried to goack to the romney campaign and say was this the ad that you corrected or removed. they just haven't gotten back to me on that. but anderson, i mean, the reason why this is so important and crucial to the romney campaign, this line of attack on welfare and on welfare reform, what they accuse the president of doing with welfare reform, it fits into a narrative that they've been trying to say about the president for weeks now and that is that the president encourages government dependency, that he would rather see people who are dependent on government than go back into the work force an

romney elected. romney of course has been talking down the economy because that's good for him. let's talk about that. >> yeah. that's a major complication. jim mengsed in his piece. the unemployment rate in ohio is 7.1%, in columbus it's about 6%. that's a bellwether area. stop after stop john kasich goes around the state and says ohio is booming, ohio is rocking. that gives headaches to people in washington saying hey, this conflicts with our message. there's ongoing friction and there has been for months between the romney campaign and their staff on the ground and the kasich people. it hasn't spilled into public view, but the article on the web you have one saying on the record, mitt romney fix your message in ohio. things are good here. you should take a lesson from john kasich. that's pretty aggressive. >> the ground game is fascinating because everybody says he has a good ground game there, but he's still being sort of outpaced by the obama campaign in a lot of ways, correct? >> yeah. the obama campaign in ohio almost their model for their grass roots effort around the state.

down to base turnout. this is going to come down to what is the ground game for mitt romney. what is the ground game for president barack obama and will their voters come out? having somebody day on a phone call as to how they're going to vote is irrelevant. the question is are they going to bring, are they going to come out, bring their family members out. are they going to bring their neighbors out? to the republicans stop all of this insessent whining about the polls. the real analysis from campaigns is going to be the first two weeks of early voting. they will get a sense of what the turnout is. go back to 2008. president obama's folks in 2008 actually looked in north carolina as a state they were losing. when they saw early turnout in 2008, they sent troops and money back into north carolina. that's how they won by 14,000 votes. how a poll says it's one thing, but it's what happens when they actually vote. that's what matters at the end of the day. >> but that early voting is why these polls do matter more. it's not just the only poll that counts on election day. early voting
